Prompting about fire safety with kids!

This is random, but was on my heart so wanted to share before I forget: I dreamt last night that we had a house fire. It reminded me that, despite our best intensions, we had Never had our kids practice exiting through our basement windows! Obviously each of them needs to be able to do it unassisted. We learned some really important things!! (and it terrifies me to think that we were so unprepared before!) 1) not even Keenan was able to remove the screens (so we just took them off since those windows are rarely ever open anyway) 2) the blinds in both our guest rooms are so heavy that Moriah has to work really hard to raise them and Caleb just can't. **This is something that Andrew actually brought to my attention over a year ago and I had still forgotten to check!** (We just had him climb under the blind and open the window that way). I immediately thought of all of our friends with basements and just wanted to remind you to do the drill with your kids if you haven't. (You may be totally on top of this). 😀

Good points, Joia. We obviously don't have a basement, but our particular challenge is how to escape when all your windows are barred against thieves...

Wow, good on you for doing this. I sure hope I never have to climb out of a basement window!! So glad you thought of this!!

If you ever become foster parents, you’re required to run drills (at least in Ontario) every three months
