CC Closing Ceremony '16-'17

Last night was the closing ceremony for our family's fifth year in Classical Conversations!

It was an exciting night for several reasons:

It was the conclusion of Caleb's very first year in CC!
Keenan finished his first "tour" in Essentials!
I finished my second year of tutoring (and am taking next year off!)

The program started with all the kids quoting Ephesians 6:1-16

All four classes

Caleb in the front row (Moriah second row)

Keenan in the army hat (for later)

The little girls and boys did their memory work combined, history sentences  about Charlemagne, William the Conqueror and the Crusades, as well as three science facts (the 7 types of biomes, parts of the food chain and three types of consumers).
Two of my seven boys were missing and one had stage fright, so only four were up at the front.

I awarded each of them with their certificates at the end (and had them shake my hand) =)
(Look at Caleb in the background!)

DONE, and headed for Daddy! =)

Moriah's class recited history sentences about the Reformation, the history of Russia, and the age of Absolute Monarchs as well as science facts about the five types of stars, the phases of the moon, and the names of the planets

Getting her certificate from her tutor, Mrs. Bloyer

Keenan's class covered three weeks of math, (Liquid Equivalents, Linear Equivalents and Metric Measurements), Science (The states of matter, types of energy and the difference between an acid and a base) History (Industrial Revolution, World War 1 and it's Leaders), and English (definition of an adverb, some indefinite pronouns and four types of sentences)

Getting his certificate from his tutor, Mrs. Deschaine

Keenan's Essentials class did a skit to show off some of their grammar/writing memory work.  The boys were army guys and the girls were cheerleaders.   It was fun =)

Getting his certificate from his (AMAZING) Essentials tutor, Mrs. Hanford

It was a WONDERFUL year!   We are done with CC now until August, but are transitioning into a "year round" school schedule.   We'll do approximately six weeks on and two weeks off, and see how we like it!

We did year round school most of the time.

Fifth year! Life is moving by too quickly!

Love seeing the kids get their certificates and do so well!

And the year-round schooling sounds interesting... I'd love to hear updates on how that works out for you! They've floated the idea at schools too, and have had some pilot schools. One of our problems is that MANY old schools still don't have any air conditioning... Weird, eh? And it does get so hot here, especially in second and third story classrooms!! But from a learning view point, I've heard only good things.
