Maple Taffy on Snow!

When I saw a friend's pictures on facebook of her kids eating maple taffy off of snow, I was inspired.

I thought, "I'm not in Canada, but by golly, we've got snow and I've got a jug of Canadian Maple Syrup, Let's Do This!!"

Keenan and Moriah were Delighted to be given the job of collecting a big pan full of clean, fluffy snow, and I put some maple syrup on to boil.   When it had reached the right temperature, they brought in the snow, and then the magic happened...

Oh yeah....

Aren't my mittens (one of three adorable pairs) from Rebekah, perfect for this shot??

So pretty

YUM.   I thought I might lose a tooth it was soo sticky, though! =)

The big pan

We found that if we ate a big clump of snow with each piece of taffy, it stayed crunchy while we ate it, instead of immediately sticking to our teeth.

How fun!    We may do this Every time it snows! =)

The Good Life

We are so blessed. We have three great kids, a warm house in the snow, a great job for Philip to go to, a Great God up in heaven, and love in our home. Here is how it has looked lately:

Three little hands

Caleb playing ever so gently and making sweet music

An elaborate magna tile construction down the steps!

Silly boy at bedtime

Caleb's design

The boys reading lego project books together

Caleb and Moriah's castle

On Thursday night, I went out with a bunch of friends for margaritas and Philip hosted a guy's game night.  They played "Game of Thrones".

Some of them showed up 15 minutes early to set up the board!

Wow, that's a lot of pieces

This is them still playing when I got home over three hours later...

I took the kids to the Wichita Art Park to a "MonArt" class on Friday night.   They each got to paint their own wooden canvas:

Moriah making her purple sky

Keenan initially wasn't interested in doing it, but then changed his mind and had a great time!

Caleb even made one (with minimal help from Mommy)

We went with some friends, here is Lily with Moriah

My friend, Suzanne, and her other daughter, Kate

The boys

Half way through, they took a break for their projects to dry and listened to a snowman story

 Here are their finished pieces

I love them so much!   I think they will be part of our winter decor for a long time

On Saturday morning, they went to a bi-weekly art class that we started two weeks ago.   They learned about water color painting and mosaics:

Getting started

Caleb goofing around during the class

Backgrounds almost done

While they finished their class, Caleb and I went to Dillon's (a different one than we usually go to).   We were delighted to find that they had kid's carts!    Caleb was sooo cute, (if not a little dangerous), pushing the cart around all by himself!

So proud!

Back to pick them up from class...

Keenan's tree

Moriah had to take some paper and finish her butterfly at home, that was a lot of gluing!

So awesome!

Probably one of the most impressive things Keenan has ever made out of magnatiles!
(I know there has been a ton of magnatiles in this post, which is really because, even after all this time, they are still one of the best and favorite toys in our house!)

Looking out our snowy front window to the snowy outside

I have been quite active with cooking, baking, food photography and posting new stuff on my food blog if you want to check it out.

Our Eyes

I thought everyone in our family had straight up "blue" eyes, but when I noticed the kids eyes in the sunlight the other day, I saw that they were all quite different!    I took pictures of all of our eyes to compare:

It looks like the yellow comes mostly from me and the little brown rim from Philip.    And yes, that is as wide as he is physically able to open his eye =)

In the Kitchen

Here are a few things that have happened in my kitchen lately:

Best. Pancakes. Ever.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes for Philip's birthday!

Spiralized zucchini with homemade Pesto and chicken

Roasted Honey Cinnamon Chickpeas
(These were pretty labor intensive, and while they were pretty good, they weren't Awesome, so I probably wouldn't take the time to make them again)

Philip's Birthday, 2015

Happy Birthday, Philip!

Today was a fairly relaxed day.    Philip was on call last night, so he slept in and then I made him brunch - ricotta hot cakes and a strawberry breakfast smoothie (they will be featured soon).   Then he opened gifts and cards from family and then we had lunch and birthday cupcakes and ice cream.

The birthday boy with his munchkins

He got these Amazing Michigan coasters from Aunt Mary D!
(Vernors, Faygo, Better Made Potato Chips and Comerica Park!)

I gave him this shirt, it says "4 out of 5 Great Lakes Prefer Michigan"

This afternoon we went to our friend's kids' birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese.    The kids were totally stoked, but I was glad when it was over.   That place is not my thing =)

We had a good time of fellowship with our house church group tonight, but left a little early because the kids were falling apart and Philip was falling asleep (not quite caught up from last night).   It's been a good day.

So blessed to have this guy in my life and so looking forward to the next 100 days of being "a year younger" than he is =)

More in betweens

Moriah and I finally got around to making the sand art bracelet kit that she got from Grandma W (I think?)

It turned out pretty cute!

We had a Ton of the colored sand left, so instead of throwing it away, we covered some paper in glue and made our own sand art!   So fun!

This is what happened when I asked Keenan to sort and fold some laundry =)

Snuggled up, watching Keenan and I play catch on one of our nice days

Sitting on a blanket with my three favorite students, reading Charlotte's web aloud... good times

My fun, new sweatshirt =)

Haha!   Caleb listening with interest, while Philip reads aloud out of one of his medical journals =)

We babysat this sweet boy for an afternoon, and a photo shoot happened

Delicious Egg Toast Cups!
