My Little Picassos

The kids have Really been wanting to paint, so I decided to give each of them a canvas panel, since I had a couple sitting around. They were delighted to each have their own 16X20 surface to create on!

I let them use some different types of paints, lots of different styles and shapes of brushes, and we even experimented with some strange things like whisks and cups to get some different, fun textures and shapes.

I had them do one (or two similar shades) color at a time and let them dry before adding more to avoid a "muddy brown" look

Getting started

Love the painter's apparel?

Well on his way!

Moriah's after a few colors

The hardest part about this for me was just (as I had promised at the beginning) letting them "do it however they wanted", since there were soo many times I wanted to step in and make suggestions or give advice on how they could do it "better" (in my opinion). God is so much better at stepping back than I am. =)

They soon discovered that painting their bellies was even more fun! =)

Nearing completion...

Adding some purple

Finger painting is fun too!

Finishing touches on Keenan's

I made a stencil for each of them to personalize their work with

Marked by the artist

Keenan's after he finished

Moriah's finished masterpiece

Once I attach some sort of hanger to the backs of them, they'll hang in our hallway - I love them!

More Thoughts on Marriage

Just wanted to share this (excellent) article my aunt sent to me, in light of the book, Sacred Marriage, that Philip and I are reading:

These things are coming to me at just the right time, as Philip and I are preparing for the "post deployment re-intigration" phase in our life and marriage. The "honeymoon" period of reunion often turns sour quickly if each person comes into it with their own set of expectations and wants.

Knowing that it's Not about my happiness and fulfillment, but instead, becoming holy and pleasing to God, as a witness to the world of His love for us, puts things in a whole different light.

Rainy Day Fun

Today is (another!) rainy day. Keenan couldn't even go in the pool at his swim lesson this morning because it was pouring and thundering and lightning. They had a water safety class inside instead.

To combat the rain induced cabin fever, we've been trying to have fun inside:

Keenan blowing one of his cars across the counter

My sweet girl and her apple sauce

I made these fun apple, ham, cheese, carrot and celery skewers for lunch

They loved them!

After lunch we went to the library to load up on new books:

Keenan made a new friend

She has no idea what she's doing, but she sure looks cute doing it! =)

For dinner, we went here for the first time!

Wow. You walk in and it doesn't just smell like a pizza place, it smells like your mom's kitchen... fresh dough, sauce, fresh toppings... mmmm...

For anyone not familiar with Papa Murphy's - you order your pizza, watch them make it in front of you, and then they give it to you to take home and bake fresh yourself!

and they sell this!

... that turns into these... =)

Introduced to me recently by Rebekah, this is a new favorite of mine:

Other tidbits of life:

I've recently watched a couple good documentaries:

The Human Experience - This is about two brothers, who, in an effort to get out of their comfort zones and experience life in other's shoes, spend a week living homeless on the streets of Brooklyn, travel to South America to minister to the lost children of Peru in an orphanage, and spend time in Ghana with AIDS and leprosy victims.

My Flesh and Blood - This one is about a woman who adopts 11 children with special needs! Totally. Amazing.

I've recently developed a liking to this group, Celtic Thunder. Here is a video of one of their songs, Caledonia;

Everything You Do

As many of you (especially stay at home moms like me) probably wonder, I often ask myself, "Do the seemingly mundane things I do every day as a mom really matter in the big scheme of things?" This new song, "Do Everything" by Steven Curtis Chapman speaks about just that.

"...whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31

This first video is him talking about the song, and the second video is the song (followed by the lyrics):

You’re picking up toys on the living room floor
for the 15th time today
Matching up socks and sweeping up lost
Cheerios that got away
You put a baby on your hip and color on your lips
and head out the door
And while I may not know you I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes does it matter at all
We’ll let me remind you it all matters just as long as you

Do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you to do
Every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every little thing you do

OOoh ooooh oooooh

Maybe you’re that guy with the suit and tie
Maybe your shirt says your name
You may be hooking up mergers, cooking up burgers
But at the end of the day

Little stuff big stuff in between stuff
God sees it all the same
And while I may not know you I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes does it matter at all
We’ll let me remind you it all matters just as long as you do

Everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you
To do every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace with every move that you make
And every little thing that you do

Well maybe you’re sitting in math class
Maybe anekatips on a mission in the Congo
Maybe you’re working at the office
Singing along with the radio
Maybe you’re dining at a five star
Or feeding orphans in Myanmar
Anywhere and everywhere you are
Whatever you do it all matters
So do what you do and don’t ever forget
to do

Everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you to do
Every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace as you do
Everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you to do
Every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace with every move that you make
And every little thing that you do

Ooh oooooh
Every little thing you do

Some Recent Randoms

Keenan is halfway done swim lessons. Yesterday he got to jump off the big diving board into the (12 foot) deep end! =)

Later, we stopped in to see the Storeys, since we hadn't been there in a while and I needed to see if Joel had changed already on me! =)

Keenan and Elijah played with a bunch of his new birthday toys, including this super cool water canal toy!

The blondies hung out and played in the water in their diapers =)

... and baby Joel was just as sweet and tiny as ever! =)

The Lost is Found!!

Spunky is Home!!

We got a call this afternoon from the Animal Control in Fort Walton Beach. Apprently she had been turned in to the Valparaiso Police and they had her for a couple days and then took her to the shelter today. They scanned her microchip and gave us a call!

Woohoo! She is safe, healthy and happy to see us!

Happy kids and their dog =)

* I noticed that the blog got 176 hits yesterday - you guys seemed to really care about whether she had been found or not! Thanks! =)

Pull'n'Peel!

I had forgotten how fun this stuff is! =)

Some food was just meant to be played with...

Underwater Fun

* Spunky is still gone (it has now been about 42 hours), we are still hoping for the best!*

This post is specifically for Philip's benefit, since he's heard so much about our kid's love of the underwater! We just got the pictures back from our underwater camera, fun stuff!

My good little swimmer

Look how happy she is under the water! =)
