While Memorial Day for some is a great holiday, a good day for BBQ-ing, the official start to summer vacation, or actually a day to remember the great men and women who have fought and died for our country.... for me it's a chance to give a shout out to Philip, the amazing man I'm married to. Tomorrow he will have been away from his family for ONE HUNDRED DAYS, serving our country in the way in which he feels called.
Philip, I love you and couldn't be more proud of you!
The day started with the kids joining me in bed, with pictures they had drawn for me the night before and kept as a surprise. =)
Next, we went and picked up fresh Donuts for birthday breakfast!
Myrtle came over shortly after that with this beautiful birthday cake from her and our neighbor, Phil!
Isn't it pretty?
Then we opened some super fun ecards from Philip, and got to talk to him on the phone soon after.
I Skyped with my younger brother, Andrew, in Mozambique!
Got a few birthday calls, one of them was a Happy Birthday duet in harmony (by Mark and Rebekah!)
Then I got a random call from my doctor, asking me to come by the clinic to pick up some stuff that Philip had asked for (weird?) When I got there, it was all decorated, and Melissa and Devin had organized a birthday dessert party for me! How totally awesome!!
I LOVE surprises!
Check out the Amazing ice cream cakes they made!
Reese's Peanut Butter Cup
One candle for each decade
Moriah and I with some of the decorations
This picture cracks me up (my kids eating cake, along with all the docs in the noon lecture!)
*The bummer was that Melissa, who thought of all this, wasn't even able to be there, since she got called into a C-section!
They also had an awesome (Hoops and Yoyo) card signed by a TON of people at the clinic! I teared up as I read it on the way out to the van.
My friend Barabara, had an Edible Arrangement delivered for me - how cool is that??
Next on the schedule was lunch out with Rebekah (while Devin watched all our kids!) We went to a local BBQ place I'd never been to and I had an Amazing beef brisket sandwich and possibly the best potato salad I've ever eaten.
That afternoon while the kids were sleeping I got to Skype with Philip for a long time, and I got him all to myself! =)
That evening there was a birthday party at Rebekah's, with her, Melissa, Brittny, me and our kids. The kids all played and swam in the backyard and we got to enjoy a nice dinner on the deck before they all got hungry for pizza.
Look how pretty the table was!
The edible arrangement that we shared after dinner
Moriah trying out one of the chocolate covered apple pieces (delicious!)
Ice cream cake... mmm...
Rebekah made me a gorgeous necklace that I don't have a picture of yet, but will be on here very soon! =)
When we got home that night, there was a knock at the door and our friends the Baronis stopped by (on their way home from their daughter's soccer camp) with a gift for me! Whitney is the monogramming queen of the universe and she'd made me a monogrammed tumbler that I will be using ALL summer, as well as some Amazing chocolate chip cookies!
Ahhh... what a birthday. THANK you to ALL who helped make it soo special, especially with Philip gone this year.
I will be doing a post about my birthday as soon as I get all the pictures from it from my friend.
Yesterday we spent some time in the sun and water at Turkey Creek with Devin and Melissa. They kayaked there from their house and we met them at the end of the boardwalk for lunch and so the kids could swim.
On Sunday, Devin and Melissa wished me a "Happy Birthday Week"... and happy it has been! I could get used to this, celebrating every day of the week before my birthday thing... =)
On Sunday afternoon/evening, we met up with Josh and Rebekah and Devin and Melissa at Lincoln park for a bbq, hang out, go boating and tubing "kick off" to my birthday week, which was awesome! Did I mention that Devin and Melissa grilled like four different kinds of meat and Josh and Rebekah made (two kinds of) Creme Brulee?? Yup, that's how awesome my friends are... =)
Ready to go boating!
Josh and Devin with the four oldest kids, heading out to go tubing
I don't have any pictures from Monday but it was a Glorious, kid free, relaxing, fun day!!! I dropped the kids off earlier than usual with Devin so I could go on base (and wait and wait) to get my ID renewed. That part wasn't particularly fun, but it was great to not have to wrangle kids while doing it!
Then I did a little bit of running around before taking myself out to lunch (alone, for the first time in my life, just for the experience) to Ruby Tuesday. It cost practically nothing because I'm signed up online for their "birthday club" or whatever, so I get a free meal coupon every birthday!
After that I did some shopping, took a nap, and then got to talk/see Philip on Skype for a whole HOUR!!! It was awesome, especially since I didn't have to share him with the kids! =)
That evening (in place of Margarita-less Monday), Melissa took me out for dinner and dessert (the best fettuccine alfredo I've ever had and an amazing ice cream sandwich) at Joey Tomato's and then we rented "Little Fockers" and came back here to watch it before I had to pick up my kids! (Thank you, Devin, for having my kids for 14 hours that day!!)
The kids and I went to a MOPS Playdate at Uptown Station that morning and got to see a Ton of our friends!
Moriah sitting like such a lady =)
A bunch of the kids at the splash park
The kids LOVE running in the big grassy area beside the splash park
A bunch of the MOPS moms
She's not far behind Keenan!
Fire pole skills
That night, though it had nothing to do with my birthday, I was excited to split a baby sitter with Devin and Melissa so we could join a bunch of the staff from the hospital for a nice dinner at Compass Rose to say goodbye to (some of the best) staff that are leaving soon. (Wow, that was totally a run on sentence)
Rebekah and I took our kids (and Jade and Eden - four kid Wednesday) to the little beach for most of the morning. It was really fun and relaxing, the kids had a great time playing and took awesome naps! =)
Her first water jumps! (And she sure did a lot of them!)
A cool wave from Keenan (who was super busy playing with his friends)
Exciting news... our trampoline is down and put away (the first step towards putting up our pool!) I took the "cage" down myself, and then our great neighbor, Phil, came over this afternoon and helped me take the rest of it apart (and actually fit it back in the box!!) Woohoo!
I haven't mentioned that Melissa has been giving me (very humorous) birthday cards every day this week, so I got my fourth one tonight! How fun!
Rebekah just called, and is taking me out for dinner tomorrow on my birthday.... woohoo, birthday WEEK!! =)
